Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze, with the possibility of Antony heading in the opposite direction. This potential swap deal comes as United look to address their poor start to the season and revitalize their attacking options.
Eze’s Release Clause and United’s Interest
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Eze’s £60m release clause remains active, putting Crystal Palace “at real risk of losing the 26-year-old” in upcoming transfer windows. United’s interest in Eze is not new, but the possibility of including Antony in a deal could give them an edge over other interested parties like Liverpool, Tottenham, and Newcastle.
Antony’s Potential Exit
According to Caught Offside, Manchester United “have decided to let Antony go in the upcoming January transfer window.” The Brazilian winger, who joined United for a fee that could rise to £85m, has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford. The report suggests that Crystal Palace and Newcastle are among the clubs interested in Antony, with a loan move or permanent transfer both possibilities.
Paul Merson’s Critique
Former Arsenal player Paul Merson has been critical of United’s recent transfer business, particularly the Antony deal. Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson said: “The one thing that worries me is who has come into that club and looks like a success? I mean, Antony was £80m. Have you picked yourself up yet or have you fallen over? I thought you’d fall over when I said Antony was £80m! That just sums it all up. “Merson went on to suggest that United should involve club legends like Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand in their recruitment process: “Gary has been at that club all his career, and he knows football from the inside out. You put someone like him in charge, even Rio Ferdinand, someone like that or even both of them together, and you go ‘right, we want to build this club – what players should we be bringing in?'”
