In a shocking display of dominance, Tottenham Hotspur humiliated Manchester United with a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford, leaving Erik ten Hag’s future at the club in serious doubt.

A Disastrous Start

The tone was set early when Brennan Johnson tapped in after just three minutes, exposing United’s defensive frailties. This goal seemed to stun the Red Devils, who never truly recovered. Jamie Jackson aptly described it: “United were like Anthony Joshua in the first round against Daniel Dubois: dazed from hitting the canvas instantly and never recovering. “To compound United’s misery, captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off before halftime for a clip on James Maddison. While the decision appeared harsh, it left United in an even more precarious position.

Spurs’ Relentless Attack

Tottenham’s high-pressing, attacking style under Ange Postecoglou proved too much for United to handle. Dejan Kulusevski doubled Spurs’ lead early in the second half, and Dominic Solanke added a third late on. Jackson noted the ease with which Spurs cut through United’s defense: “Spurs continually knifed through United’s crepe-paper-like resistance. “This defeat marks a new low for Ten Hag’s tenure at United. The manager, who claims to have a plan, saw his team utterly outclassed. Jackson’s assessment was scathing: “This is the nadir of Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United tenure: a shambolic mess that Tottenham exploited gleefully, pinging the ball about and punching through their storied host as if in a men-v-kids knockabout.”

What Now?

With crucial matches against Porto in the Europa League and Aston Villa in the Premier League coming up, Ten Hag desperately needs positive results. As Jackson puts it: “After this utter farrago, the manager, desperately, needs to win again – preferably both of these games – as it is now this defeat and two draws in his side’s past three outings. “The pressure is mounting on Ten Hag, and while he denies any job security concerns, this performance has undoubtedly pushed him closer to the edge. United’s upcoming fixtures could prove pivotal in determining the Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford. Let me know if you need any further adjustments!
